A decant ward enabling continuity of care during major hospital remediation works.

This project refurbishes an existing outpatient clinical ward to create a flexible decant unit capable of supporting multiple departments and operational functions. It forms a key component of a wider estate strategy, enabling occupied wards to be temporarily relocated while major works are undertaken.
The scheme supports ongoing RAAC remediation, including partial demolition of affected areas, while ensuring clinical services can continue safely and without disruption.

The refurbished unit provides adaptable accommodation that can respond to changing operational needs as the wider programme progresses.
The design prioritises clarity, accessibility and robust clinical performance, ensuring the space can accommodate varied departmental uses over time. By facilitating phased construction and temporary relocation, the project plays a critical role in maintaining service continuity while enabling long-term improvement of the hospital estate.
