A pioneering facility redefining therapeutic environments for autistic children and families.

The Caudwell International Children’s Centre provides a dedicated environment for autism diagnosis, therapy and research. The distinctive butterfly-shaped plan is organised around two internal courtyards, creating a calm and secure setting that supports wellbeing and structured therapeutic activity.
A central aim was to create a building that actively responds to neurodiverse needs while enabling clinical excellence and research collaboration.

The centre exceeds UK accessibility standards, addressing both physical disability and sensory or cognitive requirements.
Curved circulation routes support intuitive wayfinding, reducing anxiety and improving legibility, while advanced IT systems enable personalised therapeutic programmes. By bringing together leading specialists in a purpose-built environment, the centre improves long-term outcomes and reduces reliance on social care, establishing a new benchmark for inclusive, neurodiversity-focused healthcare design.
