A heritage led SEN school creating capacity for up to 60 pupils, connected to the existing primary school through a new glazed link.

Situated on the outskirts of Knowsley, the 4.2 acre site has a long agricultural history, once forming part of an 1800s farmstead and later the Wheathill Riding Centre. The scheme involved demolition of derelict outbuildings to deliver a new Special Educational Needs school adjacent to the existing primary school, with a welcoming arrival space, parking, landscaping and a multi use games area.
The architectural approach reflects the site’s agricultural heritage through a palette of weathered brick, timber panelling, rendered facades and metal sheeting.

A glazed link connects the two schools, improving circulation and strengthening connections across the wider campus. Internally, the SEN provision includes twelve classrooms alongside therapy rooms and dedicated sensory and neurodiverse spaces, specifically planned to support pupil wellbeing and learning. Overall, the project provides the capacity to double the school’s previous student limit, increasing provision to accommodate up to 60 pupils.
