A context-driven hotel blending modern accommodation with Snowdonia’s distinctive character.

Located in Porthmadog within Snowdonia National Park, the hotel replaces the former Ty Moelwyn Tax Office site. The development delivers an 88-bedroom, timber-framed hotel constructed to Premier Inn’s turnkey specification, with views towards Mount Snowdon and the surrounding landscape. From the outset, the design balanced operational requirements with sensitivity to setting.

Local slate, render and timber cladding are used to knit the building into its townscape and reinforce regional identity. Internally, accommodation is arranged to prioritise comfort, usability and efficient long-term operation. The building forms part of a broader approach to enhancing the town’s visitor infrastructure, providing a modern hospitality offer while respecting the scale and materials of its surroundings. The scheme demonstrates how national hotel brands can be successfully adapted for highly sensitive rural and landscape contexts.
